June 19, 2006
Examinations held by the Mon summer school in Thanphyuzart Township
have come under the scanner. It is being investigated by the Military
Security Force (Sa Ya Pa) and the quarter authorities, according to a
source close to schools.
Sergeant Kyaw Myo from Sa Ya Pa, three other military security force
members and two persons from the quarter authorities probed and wanted
to know details about the Mon summer school such as who organized the
examinations, which subjects were taught, on what subject the
examination was held and how many students took the test on May 13.
After recording the statements the authorities told Abbot Ven
Silavontta from Hamsa Htaw Monastery at Thanphyuzart Twonship that they
did not favour prohibiting the examinations but were following orders
from higher authorities.
They said they had no intention of banning the examination or stop the
Mon summer school from functioning, according to Abbot Ven Silavontta.
Mon Literature and Culture Committee (MLCC) held its 8th cerebration at
A-ning village. Although, Military Intelligence (MI) had checked them
out in the past the current investigation is significant compared to
the past, the Abbot said.
The township has about 6,520 students and young summer students sat for
their examinations in their village. The teachers including monks total
about 208.
The number of students rose this year compared to last year due to the
growing interest in Mon Language and the environment for learning Mon
is also better than in the past, according to Mon historian monk, Ajar
Ven Parlita, from Kamawet village.
The students belong to Mon State and other states about 63320 at this
year.
