Re : Nga-Pyi-Daw
Nay-Pyi-Daw means Royal City, but some are calling it "Nga-Pyi-Daw".
Nga-Pyi is the fermented fish sauce that many Burmese now use for daily
survival.
At the government press conference on April 9, 2006, Kyaw Kyaw Maung of
Burma's Central Bank insisted that the 1,000% increase in government
salaries will be paid for by tax increases. But he failed to explain
how the construction costs for Nga-Pyi-Daw will be paid. Estimated
construction costs exceed $1.0 billion. The Head of Burma's Central
Bank also failed to explain how they will pay for the import of oil
which now approach $70 per barrel.
SLORC/SPDC does not realize that the 1,000% increase in government
salaries will create devastating economic problems more harmful to them
than UN sanctions could ever hope to accomplish. This functional
devaluation of the Burmese Kyat will lead to a national uprising.
In December 2005, ten Colonels and Lt. Colonels were fired to
expressing political views. In the next national uprising in Burma,
this generation of Lt. Colonels and Colonels who command the infantry
battalions may decide Burma's future.
