Malaysian foreign minister's trip meant nothing to Burma

The Malaysian Foreign Minster Syed Hamid Albar's trip has meant
nothing to Burma, according to Nai Nwe Thein Vice Chairman of Mon
National Democratic Front.
"You can see that the Burmese military government owned paper just
reported the visit. The military regime did not care for his trip,"
said Nai Nwe Thein added.
According to him, the Committee Representing the People Parliament
(CRPP) found it difficult to meet Syed Hamid Albar because the
Malaysian Embassy made no effort.
"I do not see any chance of political changes taking place in Burma
or ways to overcome the death like political crisis where the
opposition groups are unable to act and the regime does not want to
bring change. The National League for Democracy (NLD) for instance is
inactive," said Nai Nwe Thein, an experienced politician.
Nai Nwe Thein said that political change and pressurizing the military
government depends on the NLD because it is the leading political
party. He urged the NLD to be more active than it is now.
Although the Burmese military regime will continue its National
Convention, it will not result in ushering in democracy, was the view
of the veteran Mon politician.
He said civil war would resume because the military government has not
started a dialogue with ethnic armed cease-fire groups for political
reforms in Burma.
Nai Nwe Thein started the movement for Mon people's
self-determination before the British granted independence to Burma in
1948.
