Re: Authority demand money for a traditional festival

Dear Mogyothwar,

I am totally agreet with you about 'nothing is free of
costs'. I also agreet with you that, I dare say All Burmese regards
some essential services should be free or almost free.

Most Burmese still remember about their village lives, where the
drinking water is free for all in the village wells. The fire wood is
free, the grass for cattle is free, the fish from the stream at the
back of the village is free, fruits and leaves from the trees that grow
in and around the village is free. If you have a car the parking space
is free.

So, Ko Mogyothwar, is that good or bad? If you looking from the
economic point of view only, it is bad economically for for Burma. If
something is owned by nobody, it will not be car for by anybody. The
things that belong to all become just waste. It is not because Burmese
are lazy, it is about human nature.

Because of all those free stuff people and government alike become so
lax on property ownership. To develope a market economy, GOVERNMENT and
the people alike need to have high regard on private and public
property. If the government would not kill a person illegally, the
government should not take away the property belont to that person
illegally too.

As you mentioned, in a developed nation, nothing is free, everything is
there as their right price. Everything you pointed has a owner. The
owner might be an individual or a company or a foundation, or a NGO or
local government or central government or a council. The owner take
good care of the property and the users have to pay for a fair/market
price.

So to get back to a village. The fishing in the village stream should
not be free. The local council, village council should own the stream
and take care of it. The council should charge fees on the commercial
fisher-men and regulate on non-commercial fishing, to protect the fish
stock. The money gain from that licensing should be use to guard the
stream to be a safe fishing place. The fisher-men become customers for
the village council now!

To make a long story short. The government must initiate the changes on
private and public properties. Before ayone else in Burma, the
government has to change it attitute and show respect and valued on
PRIVATE and public properties. Government shoud stop asking free
working hours, labours from individuals. The government has to pay fair
price market price for everything (land etc.) they bought from
individual citizens.

Thanks
