Independent Mon News Agency
August 29, 2005
Today, the SPDC and its military commands have retreated its troops
along the main roads in Karen State and Mon state after a rumor broke
out of arresting the culprits who are carrying bombs and then put tight
security in many check-points to Rangoon, the capital of Burma.
"The authorities said they arrested two bomb carriers in
Artaran-Bridge (near Moulmein) on the way to Rangoon and that's why
they put more troops in the check-points," Mr. Nai Myint, a passenger
said.
Some rumors broke up that the Mon State authorities also found some
bombs in the Moulmein-Muttama or Salween Bridge (the longest bridge in
Burma), which was completely built just recently.
"The security by the authorities have tightened up in Salween bridge,
you can see soldiers, polices, immigrations, militias, administrators,
USDA (Union of Solidarity and Development Association) members, firemen
and Myanmar Women Affair members in every check-point," he explained.
The tight security put just a few days and the authorities plan to put
many security check-points till border town. The authorities are
checking more than before and interrogating the passengers. The
authorities checked identity card in every check-point, searched things
seriously in the cars in order to find out explosive materials carried
from Thailand border, according to a car driver.
Some passengers claimed that the authorities took a good opportunity
from the emergency security order and they are involving in money
extortion from the passengers.
"They tell me to give them 1, 000 Kyat because I was a passenger to
Tavoy. Every passenger from Tavoy or to Tavoy has to pay the same
amount of money, because we don't want to argue with them," Mr.
Maung Min Cho explained.
"When I was asked the authorities why did you ask the money 'it is
our practice (Dar Kya Naw Dose Yea Thone San)' they replied to me",
Mr. Cho, who paid the money said.
Three Pagoda Pass Township authorities also set up security in the
border accordingly to order from South-East Command. They also inform
to town residents to inform about the guests in their houses and put a
registration at Town Ward authorities, accordingly to the town
residents.
