Former Burmese MIS mole denied passport by junta

Aug 22, 2005 (DVB) - An application for passport by former deputy chief
of the dismantled military intelligence service (MIS) Maj-Gen Kyaw Win
was rejected by the order of Burma's military junta, State Peace and
Development Council (SPDC) interior affairs minister, sources close to
special police force told DVB.

Since early 2005, it has been ordered that former MIS agents are not
allowed to apply for passport within five years. But unlike other
agents, Kyaw Win was neither arrested nor detained, and he applied for
passport with the hope that he would be granted because of his
reputation as a confidante of the ruling generals, according to the
sources.

When DVB contacted the Burmese passport office, a high-ranking official
said that Kyaw Win was invited by a foreign non-governmental
organisation (NGO) to go abroad and insisted that his application were
not rejected but suspended. But the official refused to say which NGO
invited Kyaw Win.
