In 1986 George Collins wrote about 200000 altogether with the fighters:

It is maybe natural that in the time the Soviets pulled out the life
toll rises,
but why so much?
"After more than six years of war, Soviet control of Afghanistan is far
from complete, and the resistance continues to hold most of the
country. But the Soviets' increased viciousness is taking a toll as
they escalate the terrorization of the people.32 Since the war began,
probably more than 200,000 Afghans have been killed and more than
one-third of the population has been forced to flee to Pakistan, Iran,
or the Afghan cities. Agricultural production is estimated to be less
than 25 percent of prewar levels in some areas. There has been enormous
slaughter of livestock, and many surviving animals are in poor health.
Food shortages have resulted in "very acute signs of severe societal
stress," and the famine in places has been compared to that in
Ethiopia. (33)"
And btw if you remember the Istanbul bombs the islamic group had 3
members already trained for fighting in Chechnya... Many were trained
against the kurds but the turks will not admit. Many of the Soviet
Afghan war soldiers are capable of anything... because the war
knowledge is useless in our hypocritic society. Can you imagine being
ashaimed by murders you have done at orders of people you hate but
never forget...
The world is not black-and-white
fortunately for the WORLD, unfortunately for everyone like us...
Take it easy,
