Know what you mean. Frankly I'm pretty lazy about languages - only learn
as much as you need to get by. I gave up aiming to read and write the
2000-odd kanji you need to read a newspaper here. I can read probably
200 and write even less. Still, I have a comfortable life here and don't
plan to leave the land of wa for some time to come...

I'd love to visit Japan, even if it was only the tourist spots like
Himeji Castle or Fuji-Yama. What Japanese I've learned was
from a Yorkshireman, so I wonder if it would be intelligible to
a Nihon-jin!
