Advice on Greek Island Holiday Needed.

Hi. Sorry this is slightly OT because it is about Greece, but On
Topic because many of us Brits like to go there on holiday. I just
wondered what Greek Islands have the best (sand) beaches? I am hoping
to depart for a sunny Greek Island in the next couple of days. A few
people I know have recently got back from Zante and said they had a
fantastic time.

They did say though that Zante was "heaving", and I'm not so sure I
want to go somewhere that is so busy. I need to have peace and quiet
as well as being able to party. Zante does seem to be one of the "in"
places at the moment.

My sister recently got back from Kardemena on the Island of Kos. She
said she had a great time there as well. For me though I picked up
two negative points about the place. The first was that the beach
wasn't too great and they had to go to another beach called Bubble or
Paradise beach (I think that's what she said). I believe she said the
beaches were only small though. Also a big negative for me is that
she said the percentage of blokes to women was 70/30. That might be
good for her and her mates, but not for me. If there's a Greek Island
were it's the other way around, I am on the plane yesterday! ;)

I also want to do a few other things besides sunning and partying all
the time though. I would also like to see the sights and experience
the culture. Perhaps also go walking and Mountain Biking, if its
possible to hire a Bike anywhere.

If you can make me any recommendation especially for Islands with
really good beaches I'd appreciate it a lot. I have never been to a
Greek Island before, I have only been to Athens Airport and stopped
there for a day going and coming back from Australia 4 years ago.
