Re: Conversation

the old woman: But, the company should have been mature enough to
retain sharp
technical talent. Now, their parts will be
known more for substandard
algorithms and poor verification schemes, and
probably more glitches.
More importantly, talented engineers will
either leave the company and not
come in.

the hindu guy: Yes, the management is not capable of encouraging good
work. They are
more into putting political pressure on the
engineers for seeking sexual
bribery and such!

the old woman: Any electrical part needs a continuous power-supply
network.
Discontinuities lead to disabling voltage drops
in subsystems during
high-speed operations.

the hindu guy: That's what I pointed out to the manager, suggesting
that my algorithm
could be used instead for the next generation
products, for better
continuity of the power supply design. That's
when he threw me out! :)

the old woman: He doesn't understand the powers and the potentials of
the polygonal
programming language, he is more of a scripts
programming guy,
so he is scared to introduce new design. Also,
he may be having
something personal going with the discontinuous
power supply
designers.

the hindu guy: That should not be reason to compromise the company's
future products.

the old woman: Many of then do not share the same concern for technical
quality.
In particular, his dullard boss. His main claim
to fame seems to be
that he does some physical exercise at the
company gym. Sort of
like setting an example to the younger
engineers. But, he used his
clout with the younger engineers to induce them
to do unethical
vnc watch on you.

the hindu guy: He is a total bozo, in a technical sense. And, if
physical exercise is
the thing, I probably do more than he does. Most
will not last running
5 kilometers daily at the fitness club.

the old woman: He is a very jealous kinda guy. Since one of the female
employees
in his group danced with you in the party and
pulled your head into
her chest, he got very worked up! He thought his
hold on the group is
slipping. But, he should understand you are so
sexy that even your
overwater woman friend gives you *free* company,
and takes you out
to dinner on her own.

the hindu guy: Yes, I have noted some kind of an old world attitude in
the group, beyond
the compromise of the technical quality! While
the whole industry has
automated the verification process for the parts,
they still do whole lot of
manual checking! With manual checking, it is
difficult to ensure 100%
correctness of the verification process. I tend to
relate old world attitude
with poor technical quality thinking.

the old woman: You are suffering because of some kind of "affirmative
action" helping
the majority folks. Which is creating a
counter-meritocratic situation
when it comes to hiring and retention of highly
talented engineers.

the hindu guy: Yes, I feel I am competing against a whole bunch of
folks on performance
enhancers. I am indicating the processes related
to networked information
racism.

the old woman: The low technical quality of the parts build process is
cumulative. For
example, a substandard algoithm for designing
the power supply
network gives rise to a situation that requires
a whole lot of manual
checks. Also, the automated verifcation checks
run for days, as if they
are being done manually.

the hindu guy: Yes, the verification programs were not optimized. But,
they did not like
it when I pointed that out, and started
correcting the program, or coding
up the manual checks. Possibly, because some
"white" guys developed
those schemes.

the old woman: I have also noted that your suggestion for new schemes
to run the
parts at lower power consumption were not
received with enthusiasm,
apparently. Again, the underlying spirit has
been that a brown engineer
should not be encouraged.

the hindu guy: But, all mobile system would need parts that draw less
battery power.

the old woman: The overlooking of technical quality issues appears to
be more general
than specific. In general, we appear to be more
particular about
superficial issues than core competence and
technical quality. That's
why, we are losing out in competition in
selling cars. I don't know what
we would do in hi-tech and softwares without you
guys, the so-called
computer coolies.

the hindu guy: Definitely, without proper emphasis on core competence
in engineering
and software technology, it will be difficult to
sustain the pace of
development.

the old woman: Be it cars or software, you got to develop your product
to be as
bug-free as possible. Because, once you deliver
the car to the customer,
you cannot recall it several times to fix the
bugs. This sense of quality
was totally absent among your colleagues, for
example, the format
converter program came up with bugs on a daily
basis!

the hindu guy: I agree, you seem to be getting into the mode of
acquiring good pieces
of hardware, such as motor-vehicles, and placing
"bugs" on it.

the old woman: We are turning out to be such "buggers"! :)
Instead of focussing on technical quality and
core competence, we
seem to be more into secret listening devices
and "bugs"!
