from Venezuela through Lithuania is an interesting news.- Hide quoted text -

Well, there is a lot of similarities - antipathy to democracy is the
first :-) Both are populists, both trying to implement glory of
medieval rulers into modern World. But what is hard to compare - how
good they are, coz Putin got oil/gas but Luka not. Well, there are
some hints: Belarus had some own industry - their tractors and
expecially large mining trucks are well known all over world, also
refrigerators and some other things. Thinking about the size of
Belarus, not bad from them.

At that time, Putin has systematically destroy our industry.
He so much loves Germany so much , that he was ready to give Siemens, 2
billion euros for 240 electric trains and simultaneously to destroy the
factory producing them in Torzhok

Who would you like to be you ruler, Daniloff? Is it Zyuganov or
Zhirinovsky? Unfortunately, there aren't many alternatives in
Russia. Most Russians I talk to seem to be more or less happy with
Putin. What do you think about this article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5167784.stm
?

You are right. There aren't many alternatives in Russia.
I do not see any person I would vote for.
Both Zyuganov and Zhirinovsky are nonentities.
Zyuganov had a chance to prove himself, when Yeltsin was rigged presidential election. In those elections, most votes won Zyuganov. I personally spoke with the head of one of the electoral commissions and he told me how results was manipulated. But Zyuganov chickened out and chose to become a democratic backdrop to the Yeltsin ruling regime.
Zhirinovsky, this clown is just unpleasant, as a man, though sometimes, like all clowns, he says sensible things.
Putin, Yeltsin's successor, concerned only with personal power and enrichment of people close to him.
All that prevents this is destroyed.
Nemtsov, one of Yeltsin's successor, is offended that it is not him that is standing at the "trough".
As to article you are mentioned I would be primarily concerned not democracy, but the fact that forests are burning as a result of the new forestry code, fact that anthropogenic infrastructure of society is worn and still further disappears as "shagreen leather".
As you has wrote - "This is a natural order of priorities: food, shelter, health..........democracy is much further down the list."
.
