The report seems to be careful not to mention NATO, but with French,

Finland has been a de facto "half-member" since the fall of the USSR.
The purchase of 64 F-18 fighters in the early 1990's was the first
tangible act that the country is aligning itself to the NATO sphere.

By the way one of those F-18's crashed last week. It was the first crash
of the Finnish Air Force F-18's, IIRC. The pilots survived.

Excellent that Finland has come to its senses.
Next Finland should buy some Patriot missiles.

There isn't much point for Finland spending on killing instruments.

Nation not willing to pay for killing instruments for his own army,
will very soon start to pay those expences for some foreign one. Finns
learn that Napoleon is right by very hard way.

Napoleon himself learned that he was wrong.  His army was chucked out
of Russia and he ended up in excile.  It is much more wise to spend
money on local economy that benefits local population.  People don't
want guns and explosives - they want food, housing and other utilities
that make their lives comfortable. The money spent on one patriot
missile could provide many Africans with medicine and food that is
essential for their survival.- Hide quoted text -

Napoleon was wrong in using of his army - instead of securing France
he turns it against other nations - maybe in hope others had spent
their money on food, housing etc but not on weapons). Thanks god he
learns at last that others weren't so simple-minded. So your advice
for finns back in 1939 would be: don't spend on army, put money on
welfare?

There is no point giving any advices for the past activities,
otherwise you can end up in an extreme of giving advices to a mummy of
an Egyptian Pharaoh.  1939 war ended long time ago.  Politicians
should look into future instead of past.  Russians are still
celebrating WWII victory (9th May is an official holiday there).  No
offence, but I don't think feeding on scraps of the past is the way
forward.

It depends what one "national leader" may want from "his" nation. If
target is to push military might and glory, it would be not happening
if one meets future with his back part at first. btw, it may work for
UK during crisis times - people for sure will prefer hallelujahing
Montgomery and Cecil Rhodes to boring talks about unemployment and
bancrupsy rates. Or not? :-)

I don't know how it used to work in UK at the time of Cecil Rhodes,
but today not many people know or care about those battles that
England won in the past. There is also lots of criticism towards the 2
current wars that UK is currently involved in.
