No, they are not soldiers this time. They are not even refugees like in 1917-20. They come to spend the holiday season here. Last New Year we had 70,000 of them, now there are 90,000. They come by tens of charter flights to Lapland and on 33 extra trains from Moscow to Helsinki. Plus with their own cars, of course, creating additional chaos at the border.
But who cares -- this the kind of invasion that we can only welcome. It's also a sign of increasing normalcy in Russia. And a Russia that turns into a normal country is what we all hope for, in 2008 and ever after.

90000 eh? not bad. i wonder what % of them are from st.pete.
Part of the trains and flights operate directly to places like Kuopio, Kajaani or Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle.
