throwing handcuffed people off bridges
What was that about?
This is not quite clear yet, but coming as it does in the context of
recent days is a sort of symbol. A gnetlemean was thrown out of a cop
car. They said he was attempting to escape. Others saw that this was
not so. The person is connected to the case of tapping a journalists's
phone.
Don't worry, John -- your beloved Lembergs shall soon be free!
Am I forever going to get mocked by you for saying that whatever else
Lembergs might have done, at least his city seems to be in good order?
There are more shades on the grayscale than pitch black and lily white.
But I've never been into either. Neither do I intend to mock you. What
upset me is that you prefer to emphasize the toy city rather than the
mechanisms that are necessary to building a decent system. This is
very apparent at just this moment -- the new Chair of the Saeima,
someone nobody knows much about, comes out with phrases like "I am not
ashamed that Lembergs heads my party because there are no specific
charges against him" -- but the charges _are_ specific, John. Today
the Chair offered this: "it's to somebody's advantage that the myth of
crooked politicians is sustained." Look, John, it's not a myth -- this
country is seething with corruption at every level and is worse than
any EU Member State I have seen in that regard. You do not fix that by
saying hey, Lemby may have been a crook, but woo-haa what a town! I
well know that it is a woo-haa town. Gorgeous and great for raising
children. A Potemkin village with a behind. Not the point.
Have some patience, Peeter , Rome was not built in one day, and a perfect
Latvia might still be a few decades away.
And when everything is going in the wrong direction? That's what's
happening. A few rapacious souls have developed mechanisms to
perpetuate and enhance the gutting of this society. Almost everybody
in Latvia who still bothers to look at this pile of *** is well aware
of that.
Vysu pacietiibu,
John
Of course I do not mean to suggest that things were better before. All
I am saying is that Latvia is a basket case -- a fake state for a fake
nation, going down.
That we could recover -- I hope so. But I look around -- I even get
SMS about what's happening, and that is why I chose this title for
this thread. Look, if a great President like VVF says that choosing
Daudze as Speaker of Parliament is spit in the face of nation, I think
I can call this a troubled time.
The sort of nationalism that claims this is a free country has long
ago been discredited -- this is not that, and the few areas that we
can be proud of are a shambles. The press, for instance -- decent
journalists are running from national TV like rats from a sinking
ship.
The PM has a nickname btw, Cūkmens, based on Betmens, Batman: Pigman.
