Huh, do you know all US congresmen by name and nationality? :-)
You mean ethnicity. Some of them - yes. However ethnicity is not an
issue in the US. This Euro game is played only in back yards here. And
severely punished if tresspases the boundaries.
Starting from second but surely from third generation yanks just don't
know what "european nationality" means. But you are born in Europe,
you sould know it.
I think it's not so much about yanks but the English language - this
topic surfaces from time to time: one standard insists that
"nationality" refers to "to be a national (citizen) of a particular
state", when ethnicity to "roots" whether ethnic or even racial. I just
keep going with it as it's the local standard and I don't really know
what standard prevails in Euro version of English.
But I
take the task and here are the results: 8 russians, 1 finn, 1 german,
1 swede, 1 jew :-) It makes 12 from 101, a bit less then 12%
So without Finn, German and Swede it is 9%?
Taxation without representation ends up as a Boston tea party.
Do people with Latin American heritage (and other immigrans) heve the
same %% in congress then in US as a whole?
I do not know right now and don't have time to dig, - maybe later. And I
not sure what you ask: how many members of congress are foreign born or
how many members of congress have hispanic roots?
Recent democrat's presidential debates were conducted in Spanish.
I have data just for
Estonia but I think it's the same in any country. There were much more
russophones in parliament earlier coz up to 1996-2000 we had big
russian parties. In last decade russophones start to vote more on
basis of their wiews, less on basis of language.
Well, I read few interviews with Estonian politicians and insiders, and
some of them when describing the April events complained that the people
who went in the streets do not had anybody to represent them so no
dialogue could have taken place. What left me wonder: is it the same
kind of token representation that the blacks in the States have?
Formally - they are represented, in reality however they had to go
rioting to remind government that they too supposed to have rights.
