Hi!
A co-blogger of mine, Edward Hugh, made a post on A Fistful of Euros
about the Latvian economy and its prospects.
http://fistfulofeuros.net/afoe/economics-and-demography/the-latvian-e...
He argues that, in the near future, the Latvian economy will styumble
as the country runs out of people. Between a high rate of emigration,
a bad (Soviet-era) experience of immigration, and too large a
difference between a low birth rate and a high death rate, the Latvian
economy might be short of a potential workforce. Permanently, even.
Are there any prospects for a chance in Latvian population policies?
Oh absolutely. As Latvian economy gets even better, Latvia can look
forward to the influx of millions of new immigrants from Turkey,
Romania, Bulgaria, Middle East, Albania, Kosovo, Chechnya, and
Azerbaijan.
"Interesting" thoughts from someone who's not interested in Latvian
politics.
