What I gathered from the article that Rice assured Russians that Cheney
will keep his mouth shut from here through eternity of 2008:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/05/15/russia.rice.ap/index.html

Did you read the piece?

I got two clear statements. First:
"Rice said flatly that no country, including Russia, would have a
"veto" on issues the United States decides in its own national
security interests."

I probably missed it in the news - when Russia get a right to veto the
US actions?

So why would Condi suddenly started to talk silly?

Second:
"Asked whether she thought her message was received by the Russians,
Rice replied: "I sure hope so, because I don't think you ever hear
President Bush use certain kinds of rhetoric about Russia because he
respects the partnership.""

I don't find a single word about tongue of US politicians, nor Cheney,
nor anyone else.
Weird, but from that news it is not clear was Putin in position to say
something or was it just lady's talk - at least not a single comment
about Putin's words.

Come on, read between lines. I am pretty sure it'll be commented this
week in the US news. I 'll try to find and post.

World is changing - years ago such matters were dealed on summits vith
both heads of states on place. For now US is represented with nice
chocolate lady...

We don't really know what they really talked about, do we? Condi
wouldn't come to Moscow just to stop mutual verbal abuse, there is an
ambassador for that, nor she came to discuss the damn anti-missiles.
What is going to happen to them is already well known - the system will
get frozen from 2009 and maybe even earlier. Nothing will be built.
They discussed something else and big, but they don't want to tell
public what is it.

Iran.-

You may well be right. "Don't want our "anti-Iran missiles on your
border? Then lets work together to find some another solution for Iran
problem".

"Solution" is on the surface, but there are no troops to spare. Besides
Iran's bomb is seen as inevitable. Just different estimations of time
when. It can be stopped only by total occupation of the country, and
there is no chance for that. It is however possible that in a sick mind
of Cheney to cut Iran's Southern desert regions neigboring Gulf and home
to oil fields is a solution. God help us then.

VM.>

Idea about cutting Iran in pieces seems absurd to me. What would be
explanation to the World? No nation or national group to save from
slavery there and hardly US voters will support idea "just to go and
take coz I want it". - US voters are brainwashed with some idea about
justice, so chechen way is out of question. Even total occupation
seems more possible - then it would br "liberation" if Iran people
from undemocratic govt".

Holy smoke, are you serious or just bitterly sarcastic? Believe me -
everything will be explained and "rational" motivation to be sold to
public. It would be totally inevitable, now it depends if they succeed
to start it before the end of 2008.
As to at least part of the public - I guess you never saw a bumper
sticker: "Kick their ass get oil for us".
EVERY day press and TV here bomb you with "Iranian nuclear threat".
There is however a very strong opposition. But both sides push so hard
that to predict outcome is impossible.

But much cheaper possibility is bombing nuclear devices with message
that we don't occupy you but we will never allow to build nuclear
industry there.

Out of question. Iran was clever enough to build all facilities a) under
ground b) without much concentration at a single place. The consensus
opinion is that for the effective destruction of the facilities it would
be necessary to use tactical nukes without a guarantee that nuclear
materials are not hidden in another place. E.g. MAGATE inspectors found
traces of weapon grade Uranium but nobody has a clue where from the
pieces of equipment came.
Come on, it is not known where tiny North Korea stores and manufacture
its bombs. Iran has such territory and landscape it makes detection of
storage of Uranium for a few bombs impossible. Together with packaging
materials it is only couple hundred kilograms.

There is probably even cheaper way: I don't know how far are Iranians
with their program, are they able to go forward witout Russian help.

On the straight finish line - maybe three, maybe five years. They have
all the know-how and necessary equipment.

In case they are not able, Russia's clear message about Russia don't
needs an unpredictable nuclear state on his southern border may do it.

Nothing to do with Russia - details in my other reply.
