Latvia has the best of all possible Baltic worlds.
Linguistically its language is the *** child of Lithuanian. Everybody
who knows anything knows that Latvian is bad Lithuanian spoken with a

Or may be Lithuanian is Latvian spoken with heavy Russian accent? Are
you out of your mind, Eugene?
Well, Eugene is kidding - we all do that sometimes, Eugene maybe not
so often as others.
Demographically, most Latvians are the decendants of Finnic spakers who
underwent a language shift to Baltic more than two thousand years ago.
How do you know what happened more than 2000 years ago? There is
hardly any evidence of development of Baltic languages BC.
But there are traces from past in the language himself. Don't know for
Latvian, but some language shif is possible also for finns/estonians -
our language is close to that small arctic tribes talk in North Russia
but genetically closest people to us live nearby Netherlands.
From the Finnish perspective:
a. The Estonians look like us and speak a language that we can understand.
b. The Latvians look like us and speak a language that sounds somewhat
like ours, but which we cannot understand.
Finnish and Latvian sound completely different.
Sure. But also for an Estonian ear there is something familiar in
Latvian spelling - long and slow way to say words, different from most
indoeuropean languages.
c. The Lithuanians neither look like us nor speak a language that we can
make head or tail of.
