UK tourist urinates in Freedom Monument square
Mar 21, 2007
By TBT staff
A second UK tourist has been caught urinating in Latvia¹s Freedom
Monument
square. On March 16 police detained a drunk British national who was
seen
urinating in the square while his friends took pictures. The 29-year
old
man was issued with a ticket for hooliganism.
It is not the first time a British tourist has committed such an
offence.
Latvian media were outraged when a 30-year old British citizen was
caught
urinating on the Freedom Monument in November 2006. He was fined 810
lats
(1,152 euro).
His otherwise minor misdemeanour was considered far more serious
because
of the significance of the monument to Latvian people.
In response to the acts of hooliganism, the British Embassy in Riga
last
week launched an information campaign called ³Responsible Tourism²
that
urges British citizens to behave and observe the law.

Perhaps the city council ought to provide some public toilets clearly
sign posted in the area.

Public toilets are as rare as hens teeth - but what is it about
historical sites that sets the bladders of citizens of the
Commonwealth to instantaneous spasm - feeling the need to seek
immediate relief on the nearest broad section of vertical concrete and
steel ?
And in this case - photographic evidence was apparently necessary to
document the event - or are you suggesting that they were in fact
documenting the lack of public facilities and the offending drunken
moron was merely background detail ?
Lithuania has seen examples of this same overactive bladder affliction
on the Presidential Palace and Cathedral Square amongst other places -
more than once. Both having hotels with lobby public toilets a very
short drunken stumble away for these visiting high cultured citizens
of Commonwealth nations.
Maybe its my Chicago style of justice speaking - but I'm thinking that
some open public police beatings may be the best therapy for their
bladder control disorder. The Deutsche Polizei certainly made that
work for them.

Most of the continent imposed a travel
restriction on limeys for a number of
years - at least around soccer time. Now,
a number of countries want to impose
a quota on the number of russkies
permitted to visit their resort areas
- at the same time.
My limited experience has been that the rooskies are better behaved.
Rooskies come to the Baltics to make money. Brits seem to be only
interested in getting pissed, urinating in some public square and
leaving snaps intact.
But the Liths arent entirely innocent victims here. There are
companies that organize and set these trip itineraries - replete with
boozing expeditions. The "shotguns and vodka" tour in Latvia being an
example of the absurd levels achieved so far. Lithuania doesnt lag far
behind.
Perhaps this is the kind of thing that
Latvia needs to impose on the Brit
heroes - at this time. Actually, make
it for all of the Baltic countries.
Well, Ryanair and Baltic Air arent exactly going to make money
transporting strawberry pickers west. They need people to fill those
eastbound flights too. And the latter pays cash in advance.
Let them all go to Prague or, even better,
Berlin.
The chicks are too hairy in Berlin. Ask MRTP !

A. So let Ryanair and Baltic air go broke.
B. The russkie tourist quota is not my invention
it was widely reported and the russkies squeeled.
C. The Limey ban was not my invention - it was widely
reported.
D. Let me hear about your "shotguns and vodka"
tours. I guess I missed that. At any rate I would
be amazed that Petriukas didn't scream.
