Soviet shool system was quite good

Why sad, weirdo? That's why SU has gone away. As for basic "real sci",
yes, it was best on earth. That's why nowadays western unis and labs
are overflooded with x-soviet profs. Whilst US domestic sci charlatanry
is greatly responsible (together with drugs and GM junk food) for its
current intellectual degeneration ... but hey, the Yanks just luv Sigi
Freud & Co!
Well, as I remember - and as I see from your post:-) - , soviet school
was poor on economy studies also.

Cuz economy is strongly related to psychology. Q.E.D.

Hard to say about how good Soviet school was, fundamental studies are
based on "fundamental fundings" available in defence sci mostly. In
compare with US (sole nation outside SU spending billions on military
sci), outcome of totally new ideas, Nobel prizes and well-known names
from SU was relatively small.

I guess we're talking about BASIC real sci related to basic education.
Special sci research is made of different stuff. Besides post-WW2
Nobel-Schnobels are part of US showbiz. With a few remarkable
exceptions they are worthless.

But what is for sure, soviet school gives
more about abstract understanding of universe in time western was more
orientated to the skills one wants in real life. Don't know for Russia,
for Estonia it was extremely important we feel himself living in a cage
- and it was tremendously interesting, what happens outside of that
cage. btw, this advantage is disappearing like snow in april - young
estonians are more interested in practical things like making money:-)
:-(

Why :-( ? What else could they dream about? :-D :-P

Sad, but true. True - but sad sometimes..

Why don't you ask your new owners - Americans - to fund your science
and pay your scientists good money? If Americans are generous enough to
spend $300 billion on bringing peace, love, and prosperity to the
grateful Iraqi people, Americans will surely be happy to give, say, $1
billion on Estonian culture and science, the way they fund culture and
science in other courtiers such as .... . Well, I don't know any such
country actually.

But that's no xenophobia. The American government doesn't want to spend
money educating its own people either.

But if you guys ever discover oil, Americans will gladly occupy you and
teach your people such useful modern science skills as environmental
sciences (how to clean up oil spills) and microwave technology (how to
make tasty popcorn and hot dogs for the managers of the local
Halliburton headquarters).

I even have a new name that we Americans will give to your famous Tartu
University: New Kosovo University, consisting of Exxon Valdez School of
Environmental Sciences and Madeleine Albright School of World Peace and
Diplomacy. The latter will be divided into two Departments: The NATO
"Drang nach Osten"/"Drive towards the East" Dept. and the
Bush/Clinton "Die neue Weltordnung"/"New World Order" Dept.,
celebrating that the Hitler's dreams of "Drang Nach Osten" and
""Die Neue Weltordnung" were finally achieved by Germany, Italy,
USA and the rest of NATO in the 1990s, more than half a century after
German Nazis and Italian fascists had first elevated them to be the
key objectives of the Western World's foreign policy. I even see the
walls of the Albright School adorned with the quote from Geroge Bush
ushering the New Age:

"I hope history will record that the Gulf Crisis was the crucible of
the new world order" (George Bush, August 1991).
