Re: Another article about Latvian migration

Well, Peteris,
minimum wage is field of political games, at least in Estonia. There is
influential lobby group trying to keep minimum wages low. In fact I
don't know is there somebody who really lives on EUR 200, reality
behind minimum wage is will of a lot of companies not to pay taxes. So
they pay to his workforce officially minimum wage - and rest of salary
comes in form of "envelope salary" - just cash into hand, with no
papers about it.
About poor professors we talk yesterday - just fing message from
2001(!) that minimum wage for professor in Tartu University was up from
12 000 to 15 000 EEK. For sure 1000 EUR is not some salary for
professor, but it was for 2001 when medium salary was two times less
then today.
But for sure there are more sweet places in the globe then Baltics.
Let's see what happens in Estonia after May 1 , 2006, when Finnish
labor market will be open. Our poor guys don't must even learn a
language to work in Finland, no expensive flight tickets.
