Tatyana Zhdanok was born 8 May 1950 in Rīga (not to "colonists,"
either; I believe her family was long established in the city) --
whether she is Jewish or not depends on how one defines it, but her
"passport ethnicity" is Russian. Some of her relatives died in the
Holocaust. Her Latvian is fluent (far better than Hui's -- and she is
actually quintilingual), and she holds a doctorate in mathematics.
