Not so. You can get to Riga via Ryanair for about £50 return at the
cheapest. Crossing the channel using Speedferry is also cheap at £19
oneway for a car with five passengers.
Congrats on the 205 by the way. I did the trip in my diesel 205 back
in 1993 and it survived 8 months in Latvia, not insured at any point!
Someone did steal my windscreen at one point and my windscreen wipers
(which were totally worn out!).
Insurance is now a factor to take into account. My insurance company
in the UK would not provide cover of any sort for the Baltic States.
In the end I bought some green card cover on the Latvian border for
about £35 for 4 weeks (having driven through Lithuania without any
cover!).
