In case you Down Under types were glued to football action and didn't notice, a golfer from Australia has managed to win the US Open on an unusually difficult golf course. Heres the final rank.
+5 Geoff Ogilvy (Aus)
+6 Jim Furyk (US), Colin Montgomerie (Sco), Phil Mickelson (US)
+7 Padraig Harrington (Ire)
+8 Nick O'Hern (Aus), Jeff Sluman (US), Mike Weir (Can), Steve Stricker (US), Vijay Singh (Fij), Kenneth Ferrie (Eng)
+9 Ryuji Imada (Jap), Luke Donald (Eng), Ian Poulter (Eng)
Just look at how well Commonwealth countries are represented here. Even some of the (US) others only "make their home" in the US. Geoff Ogilvy will likely move to the US, now that he's won the million dollar first, which exempts him from having to qualify for other PGA tour preliminarys for many years.
Maybe the difficult course at Winged Foot favors European and Asian golfers, and big open courses like St. Andrews likes US long hitters?
Anyway, good on you, Aussies. bookburn
