Not sure about the school in question, but I believe it's standard policy not to give a child's name to a stranger, even another student's parent. I actually agree with that, for several reasons. Better to go through the school to handle it.

If the school fails, then they can take it up with the district, and a letter to a few highly placed school board officials wouldn't hurt, either.
