3 Algerian teachers face nightmarish situation in Cairo-Egypt.
on Saturday, January 26 @ 11:02:04 CST
According to Echorouk newspaper, 3 Algerian teachers who travelled
recently to Cairo for a training session at a high educational
institute have been embroiled in a terrifying mishap, against their
will, during their short stay in the Egyptian capital.
In a statement to Echorouk, the 3 unfortunate Algerian teachers said
that a group of undercover Egyptian security agents had surprisingly
invested their Cairo hotel and ordered them to quit the premises,
under escort, for an unknown destination on board a waiting car.
The 3 teachers were also refused permission to get in touch by phone
with the Algerian diplomatic representation in Cairo.
Blindfolded, the 3 men were taken by their Egyptian "captors" to what
was believed to be a secret military camp on the outskirts of the
Egyptian capital.
On the spot, the 3 petrified Algerian teachers were subjected to long
drawn-out questionings in awful conditions for several days in blatant
violation of all humanitarian laws and regulations.
Most of the "tough" questionings centered on terrorism in Algeria and
elsewhere in the world as well as on various religious aspects,
notably the teachers' view on the differences between Sunnis and Shias
and their knowledge of the verses of the holy Koran, among other
inquisitive queries.
The 3 hapless Algerian teachers said that they had been harshly
belaboured and ill-treated by the Egyptian security agents in the
secret detention centre.
The latter decided, after failing to wrench so-called "avowals" from
the 3 bona-fide Algerian teachers, to take them surreptitiously to
Cairo Airport for a flight to Algiers without any explanation or
formal apology from the Egyptian side.
The 3 relieved Algerian teachers are, however, still under a state of
shock and have never thought that they could be the victims of such an
appalling ordeal because their only objective of their brief stay in
Egypt was solely the quest of pure knowledge.
