Mottaki: Iran, Syria to jointly produce buses, trucks

Iran-Syria-Mottaki
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Thursday that to broaden
economic ties between Iran and Syria, the two sides are to launch a
joint manufacturing line for mass production of buses and trucks.
Mottaki made the remarks in his meeting with Syrian Prime Minister
Naji al-Otari.
A plant for the production of Samand sedan in Syria would be turned
into a center for export of automobiles to the region, he said.
Samand sedan is jointly manufactured by Iran and Syria.
On involvement of Iranian companies in running various projects in
Syria,
he said a cement factory is to be commissioned in the near future
while
another silo project is in its final stages.
He listed these projects as production of mirror, train coaches, power
plants, water canals and establishment of Iran-Syrian joint bank, he
said.
At the meeting, the Syrian prime minister expressed satisfaction with
the ongoing economic ties between the two countries.
There are huge potential on economic field which could be optimized
through signing a free trade pact, he said.
He called for further cooperation between the two sides research
centers
on production of animal and human vaccines.
"We are determined to remove all existing barriers to expansion of
economic ties between the two countries," he said.
Iranian foreign minister heading a delegation arrived in Damascus on
Thursday morning to confer with Syrian president and other high
ranking officials on issues of mutual interests.
Mottaki, who is heading a political delegation, was welcomed at
Damascus international airport by his Syrian counterpart Walid al-
Moualem and Iran's Ambassador to Syria Mohammad-Hassan Akhtari.
Speaking to reporters upon arrival, Mottaki said, "The visit is taking
place at
the invitation of al-Moualem to discuss expansion of bilateral ties
and regional developments."
