Update, Wed 5:13 PM: Neighbors who live off East Byers Avenue in
Owensboro tell 14 News they found calling cards from the Ku Klux Klan
in their driveways; an apparent attempt to recruit new members.

It's the kind of solicitation no one would have ever expected in a
quiet neighborhood like Rogers and Michaels Court.

Sunday morning, residents woke up to a chilling message from the Ku
Klux Klan.

Neighbors we talked to were disturbed when they found cards placed on
their driveway early Sunday morning.

But what the card said was even more disturbing: "For your safety, the
Ku Klux Klan was watching over your neighborhood as you slept."

Neighbor, Jim Zabek, says he was shocked, "We don't need that, that's
what we have the police department for."

Mike Walker, President of the NAACP in Owensboro, says the message
doesn't come as much of a shock, "We're a little disturbed, but not
surprised."

Walker says the KKK's visit was probably not targeted at anyone in
particular.

For one African American neighbor, Walker says it was a horrible
coincidence, "I think it was an accident that they just happened to
land in the community that is represented by Mr. Glenn, Representative
Glenn. And it is unfortunate for Representative Glenn's family."

Now neighbors, like Tim Minton, want to make their own message clear,
he says, "I don't want that for my neighborhood. I don't want that for
my children and my grandchildren. It's just not a message that we want
even brought up in discussions."

Some neighbors say they plan to keep a closer watch on who drives
through the neighborhood.

The Klan card gives a Michigan address. Walker says he doesn't believe
there are any KKK chapters in the area.

There was a Klan rally in downtown Owensboro in 2002.

Previously: Some residents in an Owensboro neighborhood say they are
disturbed and angry after finding calling cards from the Ku Klux Klan
at their homes recently.

The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports that the business cards are
white with a screened American flag image on both sides along with the
KKK logo. Residents of an Owensboro neighborhood found them Sunday
morning.

The cards were left at the ends of driveways and in mailboxes. They
read: "For your safety, the Ku Klux Klan was watching over your
neighborhood as you slept."

Resident Debbie Gilbreath said her initial reaction was disbelief that
the Klan would be in the neighborhood and be so bold.
