Re: With Cheney, rules simply don't apply

It happens far more often than shots being fired. Someone attempted to
run a
friend and me off the road (and probably carjack us). He saw the loaded
HK93 I
had pointed at him and took off. Did I not defend us?

Yeah, those are the kinds of stories I always get from my gun toting
friends. I have never been run off the road in my life. I have had fools
drive recklessly around me, but situations like that hardly require guns to
be drawn.

Years ago in the Lone Star state, some bonehead whipped in front of me in a
reckless manner. I gave him the finger. Then he reached into his glovebox.

Now, at that point, you would have already had out your HK-whatever and it
would have been High Noon at the OK Corral. In my case, I kept my eyes on
the road, my hands where the bonehead could see them, and lived to tell the
tale.

Also, note that the entire altercation could have been avoided if I had just
let the fool go on about his merry way without giving him the finger.

Someone charges you with a knife. You pull a handgun. He stops and drops
the
knife. You shoot him. Can you explain the legal consequences to you?

Where the hell do you live? No one has ever charged at me with a knife. If
you are so worried about that happening to you, be advised that the complex
where I live always has a few vacancies. You won't need to walk around
strapped here, nor will you need to have paranoid delusions over someone
charging at you with a knife.

The problem is that you can't seem to draw a distinction between a common
criminal and Abu Musab al Zarqawi. The guy who takes your wallet doesn't
want a
real fight. He wants some money for crack. He'll use violence if he
perceives
little danger to himself. He's not going to risk his life in a gunfight
with
you, when he can just beat the hell out of an old woman.

Just give the fool your wallet. Neither one of you get shot and he doesn't
go around the block and beat up an old woman. Everybody wins.

Clearly, you haven't thought this out, nor have you done much research.
Of
course being an NRA certified instructor, and having shot since 1976, I
kind of
have an unfair advantage over you. Still that's no excuse for ignorance
on your
part.

You are right. If I was dumb enough to get into a gun fight with you, I
would lose. So, I won't get into gunfights with NRA certified instructors.
Problem solved.

You've got that right. Remember, I have no imaginary friend, nor any
imaginary
post-mortem "reward". If I let people in this world abuse me, I have no
expectation of anything better afterward.

Yes, that is at the core of our differing POVs. You believe you are in this
game of life by yourself. I believe I have some powerful friends.
