Man's natural inclination, when spiritually immature, is to function out of
self-interest ... "indifferently selfish" to use your phrase. I fear that
most of humanity, in this epoch, is spiritually immature.

But, I also think the ancients had a point when they "intuit-ed" the concept
of three stages of man's spiritual evolution. An excellent exposition of
this can be found in Ra Un Nefer Amen's "Metu Neter" series. If that is too
deep for you, start with his "MAAT, The 11 Laws of God". I will summarize
below:

STAGE 1: SAHU MAN

Sahu man is controlled by his emotions, He does not know how to control his
emotions,. Even if he did know how, that is not something he would want to
do. Hence, in your case, we see the ever-present tag at the end of your
posts regarding gun control and fist fights between 110 lb women and 210 lb
rapists. Sahu man is still struggling through the first stage of spiritual
development. He has not figured out yet that it is not a good thing for the
110 lb woman to risk going to jail for shooting a 210 lb rapist, while the
210-lb rapist goes to the grave for being a ... well, for being a 210 lb
rapist. Sahu man functions in times of stress by the basic animal instinct
(e-motion) of Fight-Or-Flight. Sahu man in your case would choose Fight.
Because he is at an early stage of spiritual maturity, it never even occurs
to him that there might be a Way to "intuit" a solution where the woman
walks away and the rapist lives to be a jerk another day.

You are assuming that most people are Sahu people. You might be right.

STAGE 2: AB MAN

Ab man has reached the next stage of spiritual maturity. He has figured out
that allowing emotions to control you is a sure fire formula for chaos. Ab
man intentionally, and genuinely, struggles to rise above the influence of
his emotional and sensuous nature. He recognizes that the world would be a
better place if Men would live together in peace, rather than fight each
other or run away from each other. Unfortunately, Ab man has not figured out
a Way of changing his world.

TruDogg is an Ab man. He rejects being controlled by emotions as
animalistic. He participates in SCAAM, using a tag like "TruDogg", because
he genuinely does not want to fight with black folks. He also genuinely does
not want to run away from them. Unfortunately, he does not know how to make
that so. Proclaiming a desire to live together hasn't worked. Proclaiming
the love of Jesus hasn't worked. He is at a crossroads. He might take the
path which leads to his goal. Or, he might take another path which leads to
spending the rest of his life ***-ing his head against the same wall.

He is at a crossroads, a fork in his road. He thinks I hate not only him,
but all white people. It has not occurred to him that I might simply be a
signpost at his crossroads.

He inferred in his post that most white people are not bad or ignorant. I
don't see any indications in this epoch of life to remotely suggest that
most white people have reached Sahu level.

STAGE 3: BA MAN

To borrow RAUN's words, these are "people who are able to intuit the
knowledge needed to avoid and solve all the problems that affect Man." I
seek to reach that level, but have not yet even come close. Still, every now
and then, I do manage to see a glimmer of sunlight filtering through the
clouds.
