Do Afghanistan's parliamentary elections offer any more hope than did the preceding Presidential one?

In our naivety we may applaud the holding of the Presidential and, more
recently, the Parliamentary elections as the initial steps in a process
of democratic acculturation of our political traditions in Afghanistan.
But little do we realize that, in the context of reckless manipulations
of these events by a handful of ethnic elitists, how damaging the whole
exercise has become to our long-term goal of institutionalization of
democracy and strengthening of egalitarianism in Afghanistan.
