Re: GMAT scores in the lower/mid 600s

Others may dissagree but I think that midlevell schoools are good if
you allready are woring and you can use this to make your prosspects
beter in your own company. They can also help you if you want to
reposition yrself from say technical into mgment. But I dont know if
they can find yu a much beter job than one you cd get without.

Also I think that while the top schools get intrest from all over the
other schoools relie more on local employers.

I dont have any evidnce for any of this, its just opinon.

From what I feel:
With a score below 600, it's actually easier narrowing down the schools
to apply to(of course, the top schools won't take somebody in w/that
score). And with a score around 680 and up, it seems safer to apply
tothe top schools, although there is no guarantee of admission. The
questionable ones are the scores in between.

After taking a Kaplan course, I improved significantly in math, but not
verbal and got a 640. I don't plan on retaking the exam as I don't
think I'll do better in verbal. I took several practice tests and I
am not improving I'm a bit concerned about my score though, and if
the Kaplan course and everything was really worth the effort. I don't
know what schools are there in my league. I have a 3.3 GPA as well.
I have checked U.S. News and World Report, and of the top 50 MBA
programs, the top 15 or so seem out of my league. Avg. GMAT closer to
the 700 mark, and tough essays, and really great achievements and work
experience expected. The ones between 15-25 also seem very
competitive. Yet, NYU which has an average GMAT of 700, will mention
that 80% of last year's class fell in range of 640-750.

The remaining b-schools on the list from #20 - #50 seem to have avg
GMAT scores around 650-670. Still 20-30 points higher than mine.
And then schools below more in my GMAT range don't make the top 50
list. How good are those programs? I live in New Jersey and there
is always Rutgers-New Brunswick which is in my range.

As a person looking for a career change, how good are the those b
schools career services? Most websites that I've looked up rank and
refer alot about the top 10 business schools, but little is talked
about the schools in the 20-50 range. Whether one attends Harvard or
Wharton - he or she will have a great job at the end of the program.

How competitive is the selection at the top 20-50 range (the ones with
GMAT around 66/670)? I applied to a few of them and am awaiting to
hear back in a couple of months. I figured if I applied early that
I'd have a better chance. Is that true? If I am rejected from all
those schools, I guess I'll have to apply to more schools. :(
