Is there research on religionist life span or happiness?

I've heard something and I don't know if it is true. I've heard that
religionists surveyed claim to be happy more frequently than non-
religionists. Instead of "happy" the claim might be "live longer."
First of all, have I stated the claim correctly? Second, is there
any evidence, even bad evidence, in favor of it, and where is that
evidence? Third, is there a definitive rebuttal? (I can think of a
few possibilities, including "correlation does not equal causation.")
Fourth, if the claim is true, is there some alternative social
activity or cause or anything that an atheist can take up with
similar benefits?
Thanks.
