Hi Jeff,
I'm a little surprised at the news story you mention. You're right,
I've never noticed a superabundance of job openings with the specific
title "psychometrician."
It does seem like there is a need for psychometrics to assess quality
of life in medical areas. That uses the same methods, but often isn't
called psychometrics.
Another area that seems to be growing is survey research. My guess is
that this second area will grow partly because internet technology
makes getting people's opinions very easy.
