Anything better than pairwise correlation testing

Dear all,

I'm not very much used to use statistic, so I hope to get some hints
from experts here...

I have data sets for a physical quantity (set size around 20) for
different settings (number of settings around 400). For subsets off all
settings (number of settings in subset around 10-50), I have to check if
the data for different settings are (pairwise) independent (absolute
value of correlation less than a certain limit, in my interpretation).

I'm wondering if there is an other possibility to test for
un-correlation of the settings.

Any idea?
