Yes, that Dilbert is funny, as usual.

Yes, I thought of the regulars in this newsgroup
when I saw that.

Unfortunately there isn't a profitable market for pseudo
science, since so much of it is available for free.

Just spent a few days a national conference in my field.

What is this field again?

So many people doing interesting things and having fun
at it. And making money too. Night and day.

I recently presented at a symposium. All sorts of interesting
and important research is being done in the field I spoke
about. It was fun preparing and giving the talk. So far it has
not generated any income.

Rick++ doesn't understand that there are also so many people not doing
interesting things, not having fun, and not making money night and day.

And perhaps there are successful but bitter scientists and
unsuccessful but happy scientists.

1. I am happily retired and my resources cover all costs.
2. Except for bad medical things that will surely hit my wife and I, I
would tentatively and happily think that a very great deal of
unbelievable and infinite bull*** is beyond reaching me or
otherwise far in my past.
3. I have my _real_ secret lab (some would recognize it as a cubicle in my
garage) where I spend quality time playing "mad scientist" (some
would call it a hobby) and I'm more than ever my own boss and have
a lot more fun than a lot of people I know. And, here in my "inner
sanctum" (where my ham rig and computers are [my wife has her own
"inner sanctum" with her computers]). I jaw with y'all, diss
rick++, and otherwise play the great game of sniffing tree trunks
and fire hydrants for piss scents before pissing on those previous piss
pisses (think SRC). If people prefer the Star Wars "bar scene"
that's OK with me.
4. With my library of favorite books and subjects (all non-fiction), I am
"wealthy" beyond my original dreams in terms of knowledge,
understanding, and wisdom. All, for quite little money. 5. Successful? Bitter? The answer might depend on when, how, why, where,
and what. Hmmmm...almost forgot...couple people crossed my path in
the past: if I hear they will be going down a dark alley someday,
there will be payback.

Russell
