Re: Dave's gone to the Dark Side

(after reading all of below):

The AAAS is really not much more than the Am. Assn. for Advancement of Itself. Any discussion of the furture career prospects, job security pales in insignificance to the work of the AMA, Am Bar Assn, many other groups including unions, to promote, preserve, and enhance the careers of
their members.

Then I could talk about CEOs and rich people who grant to themselves their own "entitlements" to money, more money, power, power and money, and more power.

Russell,

It's pretty wild to claim censorship when no posts were deleted.
That's an odd type of censorship?

Gee, Dave, you caught me on vacation. Well, it seems that
you really have lost the ability to read the language. I
never claimed you *have* censored anything (yet), but you
were clearly claiming the right to in the future. That's
enough in my book.

What WILL be deleted, in the future (I can guarantee this)

Then you do claim that you will censor someone if you so
desire! That's ALL I said. End of argument.

< are people
come to the forum wrapped in a complete lie (statements made about who
they are, where they work -- BS lines intended to confuse or add more
credibility to their agenda). That's another critical piece of this
story you ommitted, the "Agenda." People who post questions, or who
post advice for those questions, aren't touting an "agenda." When an
agenda is present, wrapped in lies, I'd call that a "Troll," wouldn't
you?

Most moderated forums would delete the comments of trolls.

Censorship by any other name still smells. OK, that's the
nature of moderation, but it doesn't change the definition
of censorship.

It doesn't
matter that I agree or disagree with the troll, if someone posts
something other than a question or a responding advice, it will be
looked at carefully and deleted if it is considered to be someone
simply ranting off an agenda. We'll give them a break and allow one
rant -- but once proven to be lying about who they are, where they
work, etc, that person will not be invited back. We aren't a place for
rants . . . In fact, I suggested SRC to the audience in one post if
they want that kind of thing. The AAAS Career Discussion Forum is
different in that it is a Q&A advice forum. Someone puts up a
question, and a host of people come back and offer suggestions, cheer
the person up, shake them back to reality, or give a good networking
referral. Etc.

Now, Russell, you left for some reason that we still can't figure out.

I suppose you just didn't give it much thought if my e-mail replies
to your inquiries were not enough explanation, as if I am required
to explain myself.

I think, personally, that it was because people were teasing you, and
weren't on your side in some argument?

If I must exlain further, I was accused of personal attacks when
ALL I "attacked" was someone's comments about how they are being
tired of their tax money being used to save stranded mountain
climbers, etc. I think suggesting people being allowed to die
instead of being rescued is immoral. Do you want to argue against
that principle here in the open?

So, you leave and then go
claiming censorship on another forum?

LOL. A) I didn't "claim" anything. You words are completely
clear on the subject. Look again at what you wrote and the
definition of censorship. If you can't see the equivalence,
then you're clearly corrupted by "newspeak". B) Look at the
timeline, Dave. It was weeks between the events, and not a
contrary peep out of me in that time. No, I thought your
clear claim to the right of censorship was worth a comment
here, independent of anything else, since that was always
Art's position. Your suggestion that there was any
connection is really classless, Dave.

That doesn't sound like the guy
who had posted a lot of very legitimate advice on the Forum. I
remember one of your comments about how to deal with other people in a
company or lab. You were very helpful to that person that asked --
sounded as if you were a team player yourself. I'm honestly surprised
to see you here clipping and pasting text without the full story -
simply to entertain others who have no idea what the culture is like
on a true Q&A advice forum.

Dave

Maybe I'm a complex person. That is besides the point,
which makes me wonder why you brought it up? Some sort
of rhetorical point making? As for cutting and pasting,
what I pasted was plenty to illustrate the point, and
the regulars here know where to look if they think I've
misrepresented anything. I think it is disingenuous of
you to suggest that I did.

I've been good enough to not bother you on the AAAS forum,
Dave, because I respect what good that forum does do, and
I truly think you are stepping on a slippery slope if you
don't realize that what yopu proposed IS censorship,
whatever the justification. Please grant me the similar
respect.

Cheers,
Russell
