No, it's the mentality that one is either a teacher or a researcher, not
both. The possibility that a prof can do both and be good at them simply
doesn't enter into the debate. But that would mean that students have to
put some effort into their education, something that isn't the case any more.
Strange how after a generation or two in a particular place, the kids
become "average" to below average. The kids in successive generations
take everything for granted.
