title:"Honey, I Wrecked the Porsche:
by Jennifer Saranow
Yep, nice big picture of a Porsche Carrera GT ($440,000 [yes]), before and after wreck. Nice looking car (if you can afford it) before, pile of junka afterwards with debris strewen all around.
Article? All about the neuvo rich and their toys.
Quotes:
"In the past 18 months, drivers across the world have cracked up at least six rare $1 million Ferrari Enzos--only 400 of which were built."
The article goes into lavish detail on owners driving around drunk, overconfident, and immmature about what they are doing. Half a page on page W1, and continues on page W10, with a full page (no adverts) of complete dirt on all these spoiled brat rich guys.
Page W10: Big pic of Lamborghini Murcielgo both before and after a crackup. This is the car that has the doors open up on a hinge instead of out. Crackup: looks like a pile of crumpled tinfoil. Another pic: a crashed Ferrari (crumpled red tinfoil: spectacular!).
Want more? There is a website called WreckedExotics. It might be a blast to visit. Article says they have 700 _new_ examples. Says wrecks are up 81% over 2002. Mercedes crackups up 22% since 2002. Insurance guy says there is an uptick in accidents, too. Accidents are happening more to the younger guys.
Sidebar has great specs on eight ultra-sportscars. Short story: The lowest power car has 440 HP (Audi R8) starts at $109,000. The Ferrari FXX has an 800 HP engine and cost $2 mil and says only 30 have been built and sold sellectively to "test drivers" and says its not street legal. The Bugatti Veyron has a 1,001 (yes, 1001) HP engine, top speed 253 mph, and does zero to 60 in 2.5 sec. $1.5 mil if you want one. Most of the rest have 500-600 HP engines and $300-600K in price range.

So this is what rich guys do with the money they've "aggregated" for themselves? Does this call into question whether they have smarts? Wisdom? Is this a good use of all that extra loot and booty? and, what could car insurance cost? $50-100K/year? Does this make sense? Materialism? False gods?
Add it to the "over-the-top" yachts (Paul Allen now has two, one 414 feet in length, the other over 300 feet), and some rich Arab is building one over 500 feet in length ("Mine is bigger than yours").
