A lot of the things in the past will be around longer than a lot of the things in the present. And a lot of things can be learned from books instead of dim, trivial, and superficial ideas that someone dreams up and says to himself "Ahhhh...this is a new, good idea and I'm glad I thought of it" without realizing that its already been though of before, tried, and discovered to be worthless.
Experience counts for something.
It didn't helped me find a job after I quit teaching.
