well, i haven't designed the website yet but i intend it to be very
similar to the now retired google answers. i am open to suggestions
and negotiation of terms. presumably if clients are to pay an open
ended amount for research, they should expect a higher level service
than one available from the free sites. perhaps i may decide to
prevent the general public having free access to the research material
to prevent it from becoming devalued and stolen, what do you think?

It sounds basically like a consulting service. Been
there, done that. The only people who might spend
money for such services are business people. The
typical man-on-the-street isn't going to ask for a
high level answer to any question, especially if it
costs money and/or there are free answers, high level
or ortherwise, out there (I used to work for the
government and part of my job was gto provide free
answers). In my experience there is no virtually
market for this. To quote someone in a small tech
business to whom I gave my card, "Why would I need
that?" Generally they have their systems in place
and see no reason to support research into changes.
There is a small market in statistical consulting
but even that is limited.

Good luck,
Russell

In addition, some jurisdictions have government agencies or affiliated
corporations that can do that--for a fee, of course.- Hide quoted text -

ok, lets talk money. i had in mind a similar structure to google where
researchers get 75 percent of the fee. we can set the limit charged
for questions quite high, say $9999 for research that will take up to
500 hours of work. in addition i shall charge $2.50 for posting the
question to weed out the not serious questions as was the case at
google. now remains the charge for access to past answers...any ideas?

also i need suggestions for a name for this service.

it would be nice if i could just transplant google's entire team of
500 researchers to the new site but failing that i will have to do it
one by one for which i will need your resumes emailed to me.

also how do you feel about working for free for a trial period to
establish your reputation as a researcher on the site?

$9999 for 500 hours of work comes out to about
$20/hour, of which the researcher gets $15/hour.
I charge $100/hour which is what I need to make a
living comparable to what I can make in a regular
job, assuming a typical number of billable hours
per year as a consultant. And $100/hour is fairly
cheap as consultants go. Even a moderately decent
Ph.D. level job pays at least $25/hour plus
benefits. You might find some people who are
underemployed or really need some extra money on
the side to work for $15/hour...but my advice is
to direct your entrepreneurial effort in some
other direction.

Cheers,
Russell
