Several weeks ago, an item on corporate narcissism was posted on this NG. I found a website that has the text:
http://www.sba.oakland.edu/faculty/schwartz/GMDecay.htm
and I just finished reading it. It certainly is as relevant today as it was when it was written.
Going through it, I noticed parallels with the educational system, considering that, nowadays, education has become an industry and "learning" one of its products, along with the doctrine of "student success" becoming prevalent.
In addition, some of what was discussed could well describe the Ph. D. process and how, often, loyalty to the thesis supervisor and/or committee determined whether or not one was granted the degree.
