You really can't mix Mexican with all of South America. The storiesandthe same.
Most in South and Central America would kill for the privelage of living
working in Mexico. And Mexico won't have them!
Well, how do they (including a few non-Brazilian south Americans) get
through Mexico on the way to the US?
Oh - they travel overland through Mexico all right!
It's just that non-citizens (*poor* foreigners that is) are unwelcome in
Mexico and the key is to keep moving north. Non citizens do not get jobs in
Mexico. Legally impossible and very difficult illegally. Mexico
enforcement is scrupulous about that. And they *do* have problems with
illegal immigration from Guatemala.
OK, and it is my understanding that there are a lot of illlegal Guatemalans here too (direct from a manager at one of the chicken processing plants here).

Well, like I said, around where we are now, they are mostly Guatemalans
(short, thin, low weight [I'll bet none over 120-130 lbs, even the
Guatemalans would stop and stay in Mexico if only they could!
I don't know how they get here. Might not be through Mexico.
As I said, they do travel through Mexico. They just aren't allowed to stop
and take up a living. They do accept lower wages than Mexicans who appear
rich to Guatemalans and I'm sure there are slave/servitude/bribe situations
going on. The "official" Mexican stance is that they are poor migrants and
they will allow them to pass through. Such compassion!Mexican citizens
resent them and fear they might stay (taking jobs!). The police and others
shake them down during a passage through Mexico and make sure they keep
moving. The official gov. attitude is hypocrisy ** 10.
I get that from talking to Mexicans. I don't encounter people from
Guatemala here in Nashville, TN.
OK.

Long live lunatics!
I do plan to live long ;-)
Good.
Just like everyone else in the
world!! And, a BW article was talking about "offshoring" by many of
underestimate.big corporations to engineering centers in Mexico. Don'tlook
Hah! If the mexican gov. weren't so bloody protectionist, I mightthefor???a job there myself.
I, myself, could not stand the heat and humidity. Mexico?
It depends upon where you go. Much of Mexico is high altitude temperate
despite the latitude which simply means more sunshine. Plenty of places
with low humidity.
I didn't know that.
It can be a
rough place, corruption, the "Regulares" (you know, the soldiers with
Irifles, go around and harrass anyone and everyone they feel like [whenVerywas there a number of years ago, they stopped our cab driver]).
It can be a "rough place" indeed - If your poor!
The picture changes rapidly for the better with your economic status.
thelow cost of living, beautiful climate, fresh fruit, and good food. AndButpolice? - They are at your service to protect you from the riff raff.
Bribery is an alien skill (and attitude!) you would have to acquire.
like I said - a little bit goes a long way in Mexico ;-)
Well, I hear you have to be careful about buying real estate because the
laws are not that good on property ownership. Be careful if you are
thinking about this.
If you are a non-citizen immigrant without means - you have a problem.
It is difficult, if not impossible, for immigrants to become citizens.
Even when you manage to naturalize as a Mexican citizen, you do not have the
full rights of a native born citizen. Can't run for public office, deep
prejudice with no legal protections ... & yada yada.
Well, I ain't planning to go down there.
American expats are at risk with real estate and everything else for that
matter. Legal rights, tenuous at best, don't exist for non-citizens. BUT -
money talks and nobody walks as they say. Didn't I mention that a little
bit of bribery goes a looong way ;-)
American retirees tend to reside in special protected communities. Don't
need to learn spanish or deal with inconveniences like having poor people
cross their paths. The Mexican gov. values the US $ they spend and knows
how to take care of them and keep the $ coming.
Yeah, I heard about that, too.
Mexico is an example of highly organized crime. With good and influential
friends in the white house, I might add.
Oh, I'm sure.
rich.....
Well, I'd rather go to Canada (besides I can speak "Canadian" [but not
French]).
I speak a bit of Spanish. What's "French" ? ;-)
Nollo Comprende!
poor country.
Yeah, I know about the oil. We get a lot from Mexico, Canada, and
Venezuela, and not as much as I thought from Arabs. I should have written
it all down.
There is no "natural resources" explanation for an impoverished Mexico.
Did I mention corruption ;-)
Oh, you don't mean bribes, payoffs, stuff like that, do you? ;-)
showedup at sentencing has been promptly returned to his estate.
Yeah, but he's got legal bills, too, and the sharks/vultures/vampires will
suck that money.
The legal bills will be easy to pay. If he were faking his death, the legal
bills will be settled quickly too. The lawyers get paid. The US gov.
prosecution will stand down. What other "sharks/vultures/vampires" are
there with any teeth? I'm sure Kenny Boy would know how to pull this thing
off.
Speaking purely hypothetically, of course ;-)
ofBUT - what a silly goose I am to be so suspicious!
It's not as is if there were reason to suspect Ken Lay of being the sort
person who might commit fraud ;-)
Oh, really? Says me: he was a crook.
I heard they are going to void the conviction. He had an appeal pending and
it would be *so unfair* to leave this blight on his record since he might
have won on the appeal that only an untimely death cheated this poor fellow
out of. With no conviction, anyone harmed economically is going to have a
*ell of a time collecting against his estate. No one to go after but the
poor widow. Why - it's heartless to even consider it!
Aw, shucks.
As for you! Have you no pity?
No!
I'm shocked that you can speak so ill of the
dead ;-)
I'm not.
I want tissue samples from the coffin! A planted lock of hair won't do.
I think the public is entitled to get his entire head for verification
purposes ;-)
They used to do that in the middle ages.
