*They* is a heterogenous group. Some people want the Rupee to remain
cheap -coz they do not do much value add and their job depends on it. I
persoally want to see the USD crash wrt Rupee (or you can say the Rupee
rise wrt USD) so that Indians can afford more tech products and that
creates a local market for my services. It also means that more people
can come out of poverty and more Indians will be inclined to stay back
and work for the development of the country rather than chase dollars
-and put up with slavery/racism.

pictures in the paper with Bill Gates in Viet Nam. They all had big smiles
on their faces. Bill Gates will drip small amounts of money over Viet Nam
and create a bigger garden there than in India (no more jobs from MS to
India, now its Viet Nam, Intell going to spend $700 million in Viet Nam,
not India, now).

People with capital will always be looking for the best possible
investment. When a country's purchasing power increases, it creates
local capital & local consumers.

What's interesting here is that Vietnam has a genuine historical gripe
with the US but it looks like things can turn around whereas KP's
passive-aggressive rage is mainly imaginary and based upon ignorance,

I am not passive -just polite i.e. do not want to cross some lines. My
statements are based mostly on facts and if the facts are not to your
liking -that is your problem.

worn out economic theories, and his inability to deal with the fact

I don't know how to put it -but some of my statements are well-known
theories/facts. It is just that they may not be politicially convenient
to be accepted or that you need a fellow american to tell that to you
to discount a hidden agenda on my part.

that his own society isn't the beacon of hope for the world either.

One doesn't have to live in a perfect country to point out
imperfections in other countries. We have had dalits -but exploitation
is something that is considered criminal in India. Corruption may or
may not come in the way of fixing it. In contrast, slavery is legal in
the US. and for every situation, the US govt has a visa type to
perpetuate slavery. For people with no education -they have a category
of immigrants called illegals.

The american
consumer is the one who decides whether he wants something made locally
or assembled/integrated from stuff overseas.

No, just like the shareholders have no power. The consumer does not place
in the store the products. Its the executives who decide.

You can go to an upscale shopping centre where price is not an issue
and the product will be made by workers in the US or go to walmart
where price is about the only issue. The execs will place goods on
shelves depending on the target audience. They even tell the marketing
folks to create ads that target a given economic segment of society.

That's part of what I mean about ignorance and worn out economic
musings.

Is it that you represent a minority or all americans think the way you
do? At this rate, you will probably end up being qualified as a nation
of idiots.
