Yep.

And I disagree with the other fellow above because once a sliver of
ITers get benefits, others will soon follow because the first case
starts the precedent for all the others. In other words, IT's a
recognized tradeable product/service which is no longer being done here
in America.

Gee, we're sure getting a lot of junk on our newsgroup, recently.

On the brighter side of the coin, at least we're not getting insipid
arguments on S&E shortages, etc.

Sheesh, but what about all these guys who are saying "I don't have cancer, therefore cancer doesn't exist"?

I think that this admission by the dept of labor on the IT outsourcing,
being equivalent to mainstream manufacturing despite its white collar
nature, is the nail in the coffin for chest pumping optimists. I feel
that we're now well on the way to third world nationhood and that
fleeting time is the only thing which stands between us and that
condition.

Well, I see a "slouching" towards a serfdom/peasantism situation: just a further expansiion of the current process. i.e. a better half of the population that will experience, at the low end, a "keeping up with the joneses" and all higher ups that will do proportionately better the farther up they are. Of course, the upper one percent will be "well-off" and the richest 400 will go from $2 bil net assets to maybe $4 bil. The not-better off half (the underlings) will grovel, live in cars, in parks, under bridges (Russell, are you paying attention?), abandoned buildings, and other cracks, crevaces, niches, crawl spaces of houses, all kinds of places. I--I kid you not--read an article couple years ago about a guy who actually dug a hole in the ground & placed a tank and lived in that, without the knowledge of the land owner, for many years.

All those 'decline and fall of American empire' articles never really
understood that our own corporations have destroyed our futures far
worse than wanton govt spending on wars (and other post cold war
commodities/financial shenanigans).

Heh, heh...its all part of the normal reverse-Robbin-Hood process, all organized by the robbER barrons.

Also, once the intellectual
property is gone,

Its going to be a fight between the pirates and the RFID tags. Someday the world may be so complex that IP will be _embedded_ in database files so that if anyone accesses them, the owner of the IP will be tipped off. Then, it will be up to super-hackers to hack that.

Kinda more like a very advanced version of missles, anti-missle-missles, anti-missle-missle-missles....you get my drift...

it'll never come back much like the Spanish gold
during the 1500s. This is the X factor which is missing from most
mainstream articles.

We'll have to go to mars.
