I would suggest an analogy in science. There are too many scientists
who forge scientific results and get grants based on those forgeries.
Is this because there is a "monopolization" of science ? No.
Yes. Scientific activity has been monopolized by few places and it is
extremely difficult to break in.
Definitely true in some areas. I know of faculty who have been funded by a particular program for over a decade. In that same period of time, no new PIs have been funded by this same program. In addition, people tend to get hung up on "superstar" creation. Is it efficient to have 15-20 students working for one advisor? Or would science be better served by spreading the money around to 3 different PIs, each managing 5 students?
For one you can not receive a grant
without affiliation - you must have a roof. And that roof must be high
and of certain colour.
That is understandable. One needs to have the infrastructure in place to do the research.
If you look at this system from inside it looks.
like playing with cardsharpers - they always win no matter what you do.
The same guys who apply for grants sits on the review boards.
