Yes. Scientific activity has been monopolized by few places and it is
extremely difficult to break in. For one you can not receive a grant
without affiliation - you must have a roof. And that roof must be high
and of certain colour. If you look at this system from inside it looks
like playing with cardsharpers - they always win no matter what you do.
The same guys who apply for grants sits on the review boards.
On the other hand, you could always have your own money and start a new and/or different game.
