Re: modern science = underfunded projects

Probably the worst thing going on in the USA, now, (besides our idiot president), is this vast sea change in attitude among our executives. It is a shift from "doing good business" to "rip off, cheat, steal, trick, etc." any way you can. The proof is in books like Michael Lewis' "The Money Culture" and "Barbarians at the Gate". And, US CEOs make so very very much more than rank and file than CEOs anywhere else in the world (this is also regularly covered in the WSJ, so I'm not making it up).

It isn't just in business where this occurs. Look at the farce that post-secondary education has become. There are some institutions where the underlying doctrine is that everyone is a winner, everone has to be a champion. How can there be anything resembling standards when expectations are lowered in order that everyone can graduate?

Just reemmber that quote I made 1-2 years ago about over in India the students went on strike to cheat. I should dig that up again; throw it in Kamal's face whenever he throws "stupid Americans" stuff here.

The decline in educational standards is a problem, too. But, its even more fundamental when our whole culture is tuned into "instant gratification" and "supreme lazyiness overall"

Don't forget the attitudes of "image is everything", "superficiality trumps tangible achievement", and "success at any cost", which apply to both business and education.
