Bingo, east Asia (not including India) is the economic story of our
times. These are the rapidly growing economies (including to a less
extent, recession bound Japan) which have a combination of capital
intensive manufacturing along with R&D. Right now, Japan, South Korea,
and Taiwan have high standards of living but soon, the others will
follow. And once these nations are established, then we'll see a
growing services sector to compliment those manufacturing sectors.

As for std of living, the US's will fall due to the dollar imbalances
and the lack of capital intensive stateside industries.

Unless India can build tons of fab plants, biotech centers, and cleanup
its corruption, it's just experiencing a services related bubble
economy due to US corps sending support and IT jobs over there. When
educated Indians don't even know of the extent of the Persian empire's
influence on their own culture than it really tells me that that place
doesn't know who it is or what it is. At least the eastern Asian
countries have their cultural foundations in place and are now working
on their economic ones to move forward.
