It's not that surprising. While this is probably out of your personal
knowledge, being a story from the U.S., the Texas Rangers baseball
team had to pay one guy $25 million a year for 10 years, but they
found out they couldn't afford a decent rest of the team so they traded
him to New York where they can afford him. The team that won the
championship this year was neither Texas nor New York, but the
Chicago White Sox, who had one of the lower total team salaries.
OTOH Michael Jordan won 6 NBA championships, although he had
some good role players around him. The moral of the story is that
superstars may or may not be worth what they cost.
